THE number of local athletes in Europe is growing by the day. According to latest reports, Claudette Mukasakindi, Eric Sebahire and Felix Ntirenganya could all be on their way to Italy.

Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) secretary general, Constant Twajamahoro has revealed that the federation is wrapping up a deal with agents from Italy.

"We are through with the paper work and are now waiting for their approval,” the official confirmed.

The trio is the latest group to benefit from the federation’s gradual plan to groom international athletes.

Some of the athletes who have benefited from the project in the past include Sylvain Rukundo, Godfrey Rutayisire, Gervais Ntaganda, Jean Baptist Simuceka and Dieudonne Disi among others.

RAF president Jean Paul Munyandamutsa believes that the project can only reap dividends for the country.

Meanwhile, RAF is also planning to secure new International Olympics Committee (IOC) scholarships for local athletes. The federation is set to hold talks with Rwanda National Olympics Committee (RNOC) on the matter.

The two scholarships that had been awarded to Disi and Angeline Nyiransabimana ran out last year.
