More accidents recorded in 2009

A police report has revealed that in 2009, the number of road accidents in the country increased by 10.2 percent compared to the previous year. In 2008, 2500 accidents were recorded while in 2009, the figure went up to 2766.According to the report, severe accidents also increased by 21.7 percent from 759 in 2008 to 924 in 2009.

A police report has revealed that in 2009, the number of road accidents in the country increased by 10.2 percent compared to the previous year. In 2008, 2500 accidents were recorded while in 2009, the figure went up to 2766.

According to the report, severe accidents also increased by 21.7 percent from 759 in 2008 to 924 in 2009.

Kigali city and Southern Province have for the second consecutive year recorded the highest number of accidents.

The Eastern Province and the Northern are the third and fourth respectively.

346 people died in accidents in the whole country 1n 2009.
Traffic Police chief, ACP John Bosco Kabera said that most accidents were due to careless driving.
