MUSANZE - The Minister of Local Government, James Musoni has advised local authorities to get closer to residents while implementing government policies instead of delegating responsibilities.

Musoni warned the authorities against what he called crisis management resulting from lack of clear planning.

The minister, who was on an upcountry tour last week, challenged Musanze district authorities to draw lessons from the recent fall-out between the mayor and the district executive secretary which eventually led to their interdiction.

He challenged the local government authorities to change the image of the local government which he said has been tainted by corruption.

The provincial governor, Aime Bosenibamwe said that whereas Musanze has made big steps in economic transformation, polygamy remains a big challenge which affects family planning.

Bosenibamwe challenged the sector executive secretaries to draw a road map to end the grass thatched houses especially in the Virunga areas.
