UNDP awards best banana growers

RWAMAGANA -  The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Rwanda has awarded the best banana grower in Rwamagana district. At a ceremony organised on Saturday in Gishari village, Muginya sector, Emmanuel Rwakayigamba, the Executive Secretary of Munyiginya sector, observed that the competition is healthy since it has encouraged farmers to adopt modern ways of farming.

The short new banana type that farmers are encouraged to grow.

RWAMAGANA -  The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Rwanda has awarded the best banana grower in Rwamagana district.

At a ceremony organised on Saturday in Gishari village, Muginya sector, Emmanuel Rwakayigamba, the Executive Secretary of Munyiginya sector, observed that the competition is healthy since it has encouraged farmers to adopt modern ways of farming. 

Cam Rusanga was chosen as the best banana grower in the district, was awarded farm implements worth Rwf350,000.
He was all praises for the government’s effort to develop agricultural activities in the area which he said motivates farmers. 

"The farm implements I have been given will be of great use to me. Other farmers will also be encouraged to be more competitive,” he said.  

Isaac Sarabwe, was awarded in the second position. He promised to do better next time and be exemplary to other farmers in the sector. 

Celestin Mukeshimana, the sector agriculture officer said such awards inspire competition which leads to modern agriculture. 

"I thank the government through UNDP for the commendable job they are doing to improve agriculture in the country. They shouldn’t tire but continue until we reach the desired levels of agriculture development,” he said.
