Where are these artistes?

Aime Uwimana was one of the gospel artists with gleaming talent in the last few years. His ‘Njyiye Ahera’ album was impressive having been accompanied by videos of the songs. But who can tell where the singer vanished to after his album launch in 2008? Beezy Bee of the once high-flying label TFP also ceased blaze. This fine producer is the guy who lifted the likes of Mahoniboni, DMS, Faisal and many other famous artists to fame. Many local music lovers wonder where this once safe-competitor is.

Most of us miss the funny side of Kanyombya Bihanga, Rwanda’s unequaled comedian. He dramatically went silent after his popular ‘Kanyombya’ episodes, to-date. We wish to see this guy back on screen in the year 2010.

Queen Ally, one of the local artists with a comfortable purse, has also gone rare in showbiz. This belle had improved her talent to even being nominated best female artists for last year’s Salux Awards before unwinding.

Mahoniboni once run the hip-hop game with his hip-hop single of all time ‘Kubaka Izina (Andika M-C)’. The self proclaimed Rwanda’s Tupac captured fame across local borders later flying to the Netherlands and we never heard his other new songs on radio since then.

Asher Junior was an upcoming hip-hop artist with a Lil Wayne flow in 2007 and early 2008.  He has been off stage since then- perhaps planning for a comeback.

And a few fans would counter argue if I named Emile of the ‘Nabayeho’ fame ‘a one-hit wonder’. The talented gospel singer and producer appeared a likely victor with his amazing reggae single but slowed down so fast than believable.

Nag G the General of the UTP Soldiers is yet another figure who has gone missing from show biz nowadays.

The ‘Ibicyeri’ rapper was nominated best hip hop artist in last year’s ‘Salux Music Awards’ but slowed down notably after the Awards ceremony along with his fellow ‘Soldiers’.

Gospel songbird Tonzi has also taken quite long without giving her fans anything new. We saw her launch her debut album last year but later set on performing in church rather than going back to studio.

Afro-beat artiste Eric Senderi is more of passive in the industry this season. The ‘Twaribohoye’ singer relaxed muscle after his Netherlands tour and many of his fans wonder where this guy is- perhaps preparing more albums?

Fans of Sister Mirelle also ask whether their ‘underground queen’ has quit the music industry since is no longer seen in concerts or studios. We are counting on her 2010 performance to bear out her presence in the game.

Where is the Tusker Project (TFP3) winner Alpha? Most of the local fans last heard from this hero on his official welcome and subsequent radio interviews. We also wonder when he will board the plane for South Africa’s Galoah records.
