The Belgian Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Steven Vanackere, is expected in the country for a two-day visit beginning January 22, The New Times has learnt.

No official confirmation could be got from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and the Belgian Embassy as Ambassador Ivo Goemans couldn’t be reached on phone.

However one official who couldn’t go on record said that visit will largely hinge on bilateral cooperation.

With significant Belgium support, especially in the health sector, Belgium is one of Rwanda’s leading European Union partners.

In January last year, Rwanda and Belgium signed five co-operation pacts all worth Euros 38.12 million (approx. Rwf 30 billion) to go into five specific areas that include  – animal husbandry, infrastructure development and accessing safe drinking water in Nyaruguru, Huye and Gisagara districts of  the Southern Province.
