A massive male-circumcision campaign is set to kick-off early of this year, an official of the National Aids Commission (CNLS), has revealed.

Without giving the exact date, the commission’s deputy Executive Secretary, Antoine Semukanya, said the exercise that was set to begin earlier on has been delayed because of lack of personnel to carry it out.

He said that male circumcision campaign is in the process but what remains is adopting the policy by the relevant ministry

Semukanya revealed that the majority the population now have sufficient information on the role of male circumcision as a preventive measure towards controlling HIV/AIDS.

"It is however very vital for the public to know that although this is a preventative measure, it is not 100 percent effective” he said

Health experts say that men who are circumcised are 60 percent more likely to be protected against HIV during sexual intercourse than those who are not.
