RAYON Sport will leapfrog 2008 league champions Atraco on the national football league table if they win tomorrow’s crunch tie against old-rivals SC Kiyovu at Nyamirambo’s Regional Stadium.

The game will be a test of who can recover faster following last weekend’s defeats. The Blues were stunned to a 0-3 defeat against a Jimmy Gatete inspired Police side while Kiyovu suffered a similar humiliation against a lively Atraco side.

Rayon’s head coach Jean Baptist Kayiranga and his Kiyovu counterpart Jean Marie Ntagwabira will no doubt look to tighten their defenses which have leaked in five goals apiece in their last three games. Rayon’s attack will be spearheaded by Papy Gasana, who has netted three times this season.

Sunday’s other tie pits struggling Mukura against Musanze. The two sides are just a point shy of the relegation zone and know that this game is very important if they are to revive their hopes to staying in the top flight.

The other games will be played mid next week.
On Tuesday, Police host AS Kigali; Marines play Electrogaz while Atraco have an opportunity to exert more pressure on the top two with a win over Amagaju.

The following day, it will be a contest between league leaders and reigning champions as Etincelles host APR at Umuganda stadium.

Etincelles, who wrestled their way back into the top flight at the beginning of this season, have stunned many with a string of top notch displays.

The Rubavu-based side continued to smash the status quo of the league after last Sunday’s 2-1 home win over Musanze.

The win kept the side atop the league table with 19 points, three more than APR and Atraco, who are separated by goal difference in second and third place.
