HUYE – The Commissioner General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana on Tuesday handed over a car allegedly stolen in Burundi to his Burundian counterpart Fabien Ndayishimye.

This was at the end of a one day meeting of Police chiefs from the two countries convened to combat cross border crimes.

The car, a Toyota Corona registration number 01 BB.5268 was recovered by Police in Nyamirambo - a Kigali City suburb.

According to Police spokesman Superintendant Eric Kayiranga, the recovered car was given to a Rwandan businessman as collateral by a suspected Burundian car thief only identified as Hussein for a loan.

"The suspected thief from Burundi disappeared after receiving the money and he escaped to Goma where he also defrauded another Rwandan businessman before he was arrested in Uganda with assistance from Interpol,” said Superintendant Kayiranga.

"He was extradited to Rwanda where he is expected to be arraigned before court soon,” he added. The car was immediately driven away by a Burundian Police official.
