Rwandan artiste France Mpundu has revealed that it was love at first sight when she met her boyfriend Moctar during their time on Secret Story Africa Season 2, which closed in South Africa on Saturday, November 29.
France returned to Kigali on Sunday night after spending two months in the Maison des Secrets. She finished in fourth place, while Moctar—who hails from Niger—was crowned the winner in Saturday night’s grand finale, securing the top prize of CFA 25 million (approx Rwf 50 million).

In the days leading up to the finale, some viewers speculated that the couple’s relationship might have been more of a strategy to win attention from viewers than a genuine connection. But France was quick to set the record straight.
"I went by myself, and now I’m returning with a boyfriend I met on the reality show,” she told the press at the airport. "I’ll be sharing more details in the future, and if he comes to Kigali, he will also share his side.”

France described the competition as emotionally and mentally demanding, noting that having Moctar by her side made all the difference.
"I connected with Moctar instantly. He’s kind and very down-to-earth. He helped me a lot throughout the competition, and even though many housemates wanted us out, we stayed strong together and loved each other even more,” she said.
A couple that won viewers' hearts
What began as a spark between two contestants gradually grew into one of the most talked-about relationships of the season. Their chemistry, vulnerability, and gentle rapport resonated with viewers, who hailed them as the "couple of the season.”
Fans across social media praised the pair for bringing authenticity and warmth to the show, with many insisting their relationship felt far from scripted — a rarity in reality TV.
Secret Story Africa aired every Saturday at 10:30 p.m. on CANAL+ Magic, with daily episodes on CANAL+ POP at 8:15 p.m. This was the second edition filmed in South Africa, following the successful debut won by Côte d’Ivoire’s Awa Sanoko.
Adapted from the French format popularized by TF1 over 18 years ago, the show continues to grow its footprint on the continent. This season brought together 18 contestants from 16 French-speaking African countries, further solidifying its role as a vibrant showcase of African youth, talent, culture, and storytelling.
