After an eventful week that saw two Sudanese clubs, Al-Merrikh and Al-Hilal Omdurman, make their debut in the Rwanda Premier League, attention turns to another busy weekend filled with cycling awards while local leagues in football and volleyball resume.

Alongside that, the sporting calendar is packed with action across the Rwanda Premier League, 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers, and volleyball league fixtures.

Times Sport suggests a list of top sporting events to plug in this weekend.

African Cycling Excellence Awards come to Kigali

Fresh off hosting the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, Kigali will this weekend welcome Africa’s cycling elite for the inaugural African Cycling Excellence Awards.

The ceremony—set for Saturday, November 29, at Zaria Court—will honor the continent’s best cyclists across men’s, women’s, professional, and amateur categories.

Team Rwanda is particularly among the final three countries contesting for African National Team of the Year, facing strong competition from Eritrea and Mauritius.

Some of the delegates from world cycling governing body (UCI) and Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) have already arrived in town for the awards.

Rwanda Premier League continues

The league has grown even more intriguing following the addition of Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC and Al-Merrikh SC, who made their historic debuts earlier this week.

Action resumes on Friday as AS Kigali host APR FC at Kigali Pele Stadium (6 p.m.).

Meanwhile, league leaders Police FC will take on Musanze FC on Saturday while Rayon Sports visit Gicumbi FC at Mumena Stadium. It will be the Blues’ first match since recent administrative reforms saw all club’s leadership organs dissolved, paving the way to an interim committee, led by Abdallah Murenzi, to take over during the next three months.

Rwanda seek redemption at 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

Rwanda began their road to the 2027 FIBA Men’s World Cup with an 82–70 loss to Guinea on Thursday in Tunisia, but will look to bounce back when they face host nation Tunisia on Saturday.

A victory would be crucial for their qualification push in Group C, which also features Nigeria.

Basketball fans can catch the game via the official FIBA YouTube channel.

Volleyball ignites Petit Stade again

Petit Stade comes alive this Friday as local volleyball heavyweights APR VC and Police VC square off at 8 p.m. in a rematch of last season’s playoff finals.

Their rivalry remains one of the most anticipated in Rwandan volleyball.

Before that, RRA WVC will face Kepler WVC in another thrilling match.

More league games continue on Saturday.
