Jimmy Gatete chose the right moment to show Rayon Sport what they’re missing as his brace inspired Police to a stunning 3-0 win over his former club in a league match played yesterday at Nyamirambo stadium.

Gatete’s brace came in the second half after another former Rayon striker Roger Tchouassi had given Police a first half lead.

Jean Baptiste Kayiranga’s Rayon side were a shadow of a team that beat league favourites Atraco 3-0 last weekend as they succumbed to their second defeat of the season.

Gatete joined Police in the close season after Rayon refused to renew his contract, and he played yesterday’s game like a man wanting to prove a point or two against his former employers.

Tchouassi opened the scoring in the 21st minute through a penalty after he was fouled by Rayon midfielder Hakiri Mabula, before the veteran Rwandan international scored in the 68th and 81st minutes to seal a memorable win for Police.

Meanwhile, Etincelles maintained their grip at the top of the table standing after defeating Musanze 2-1.

The Gisenyi based side have 19 points, three more than the champions, APR who also beat Amagagu 2-1.

Action continues today when Jean Marie Ntagwabira takes his Kiyovu team against his former club, Atraco for the first time.
