Sudanese side Al-Merreikh introduced themselves perfectly to Rwanda Premier League with a 2-0 win over SC Kiyovu at Kigali Pele Stadium on Monday, November 24.
It was their first league match since the Confederation of African Football (CAF) granted the club and their Sudanese rivals Al Hilal a green light to compete in the Rwandan league.
Both sides had failed to find the back of each other’s net until Al-Merreikh broke the deadlock in the 67th minute through Daouda Ba who opened the scoring with a powerful long-range shot to send the visitors’ supporters into a frenzy.
Mohammed Teya Abudegen doubled the lead for the club from the box. He received the ball from the left and turned back to shoot it into the back of net in the 86th minute.
Al-Merreikh will next visit Bugesera FC on Thursday, November 27 while Al Hilal will face Police FC on Wednesday, November 26.
Kiyovu are eighth on the table with 10 points from nine matches. Their next test will be against Gorilla FC on Friday.
