RUSIZI - Authorities yesterday closed down a number of restaurants, bars, and butcheries in Kamembe town, Rusizi district due to poor hygiene, warning that more could follow.

Some of the hotels that were closed include Ten To Ten Paradise Hotel, Hotel Du Lac, Carwash Restaurant, Umucyo Restaurant, Kigoli Bar, VIP Bar and Green Corner Bar.

The District Health Committee that was led by the Rusizi District vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Françoise Nirere, said the businesses would be reopened only after they put in place the required facilities.

"All the outlets closed today have poor service delivery systems and customer care while others do not meet the minimum sanitation standards,” Nirere said. "They pose a health hazard to the citizens.”

During the health inspection, restaurants were each fined Rwf50,000 for failing the health standards.
