I just read about the arrest of the Mayor of Musanze District Celestin Karabayinga, on charges of embezzling up to Rwf12 million. What made this story interesting was the fact that the mayor was arrested through a tip-off from a district official on the disappearance of the money.

This was interesting because it shows that the Rwandan people are actually internalising the fight against corruption. I think it was almost unheard of, for a district official ‘telling on’ his superior because of the fear of reprisals.

In fact, I hope that this whistle blower encourages others to share any information they have.

We cannot expect the National Police to be everywhere; we must do our part as responsible citizens
