Over 400 students are taking part in a basketball training camp that is being held at six different courts.

The two-week training camp which started mid this week will be used as a selection ground for future national team players.

According to the national basketball federation (Ferwaba) secretary general Jean Lucien Mugabo, the students have been grouped into four groups.

"Boys have been grouped into two age-groups; 14-18 and 18-20 while the age groups for girls are 15-18 and 18-20,” Mugabo said.

The training camp is being conducted at Kimisagara, Rafiki club, Kacyiru, Amahoro stadium, Rwanda National University and Stella Maris in Gisenyi.

The camp was initiated last year by the late Jean de Dieudonne Nizeyimana by at the time served as Ferwaba’s technical director.

"We are sticking to Nizeyimana’s original plan of using the event to identify future players for the national team and local clubs,” Mugabo added.

Like last year, the training camp will crown off with a tournament.

In 2006, 45 players were selected at the end of training camp.
