KIGALI - Over 200 students have been expelled from the School of Finance and Banking (SFB) for incompetence in their academic work, Sunday Times has learnt.

Without confirming the actual number of those dismissed, acting SFB Rector Dr. Papias Maringa said the discontinuation was part of the normal academic regulations.

"Am still compiling the actual number as we speak. It could be less than 100 or above 200 students,” he told Sunday Times.

However, Sunday Times has learnt that the students who have so far received notice of their discontinuity after end of year academic results were released number over 200.

The students who are affected most are those within the evening program. Those dismissed also include students who fail to attend classes and only come to sit for exams.

"Students who can’t be at school on time are not supposed to be called SFB students,” the Rector said.

The discontinuation of students comes at a time the institution is also hit by reports of leakage of exams.
The Rector said he had heard of the rumours and is investigating their authenticity.

"I will not tolerate any student or staff that will be caught in such acts,” the Rector said.
