Known for hits like Nina Siri, the 33-year-old artiste added that reading fuels creativity and discipline. "When you read many books, you get many ideas. That mix gives you better understanding and neat work,” he said.

A trained pharmacist with a Master’s in Public Health, Mbonyi is one of Rwanda’s most accomplished gospel voices, with honors from Groove Awards Rwanda, Isango Na Muzika Awards, and a nomination at the African Entertainment Awards USA, among others.

He said his faith became personal at 16 when a visiting preacher inspired him to accept Christ — a moment that shaped both his spirituality and artistry.

After completing his studies in India, Mbonyi debuted as a solo artiste with Number One in 2014. His growing catalog now spans Intashyo (2017), Mbwira (2020), Hari Ubuzima (Live) (2022), Umusirikare (2023), and his latest project, Hobe (2025).

His latest album spans Kinyarwanda, English, and Swahili, blending Amapiano, Afro beats, soul, and Gakondo influences into contemporary gospel.

Mbonyi made history as the first Rwandan artiste to sell out BK Arena for three consecutive years. He’s now gearing up for his annual Christmas performance, one of Rwanda’s most anticipated gospel shows.

He urged young gospel artistes to make the most of today’s digital era. "In our time, resources were limited. Now, information finds you where you are. There are so many opportunities — use them well,” he said.

The night also featured a lineup of comedians including Musa and MC Kandi with their biblical skits, Pirate’s teacher persona, Inkirigito, Muhinde, Mitsi, and Umushumba’s "fake professor” act.

Mbonyi closed the night with a live set joined by Prosper Nkomezi, Aline Gahongayire, Jesca Mucyowera, and Alex Dusabe, who are all preparing for their own shows in the coming weeks.
