Fergie, keep it simple

Editor,

In light of a recent defeat of Manchester United by Fulham, it never ceases to amaze me how Sir Alex Ferguson can complicate what is in essence a simple game. Being short of players through injury appears to create the same problems as playing top class opposition.

Football is simply about getting your best eleven in all positions on the field in a simple formation.

In the case of Manchester United this normally involves 4-4-2 and attacking and defending as a team, giving one hundred per cent and regardless of the opposition knowing that you have given your best even in defeat.

Unfortunately, Sir Alex Ferguson, like so many managers at the top level, over complicates what is in essence a simple game through strange tactical formations.
