The fairways at Kigali Golf Resort & Villas are set for action once again as the NCBA Golf Series returns this weekend, marking the second edition of NCBA Bank’s flagship tournament in Rwanda and reaffirming the country’s emergence as a rising force in East African golf.
Bringing together top amateur golfers from across Rwanda and the wider region, the tournament embodies NCBA’s commitment to advancing sport, community development, and sustainable regional partnerships.
"Hosting the Series for a second consecutive year underlines our long-term vision,” said Maurice Toroitich, Managing Director of NCBA Bank Rwanda. "We’re not just organizing a tournament — we’re nurturing a platform that connects East Africans through sport, opportunity, and shared purpose. Golf has proven to be a powerful bridge for all of that.”
This year’s event carries extra significance as Rwanda plays host to the final regional leg of the NCBA Golf Series before the much-anticipated Grand Finale slated for November 28th at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.
At the finale, top qualifiers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda will compete for the coveted 2025 regional title. Last year’s Rwandan edition saw over 200 players participate, with Paul Ntaganda, Alphonsine Murekatete, and Bethlehem Umuzabibu going on to represent Rwanda at Muthaiga — an achievement that energized the country’s golfing community and highlighted its growing competitive edge.
Adding to the excitement, the 2025 Kigali edition welcomes a new partner — the newly opened Mövenpick Hotel Kigali, which will co-sponsor the event and host the official prize-giving gala.
"It’s an honour to make our debut with an event that celebrates sporting excellence and regional unity,” said Media Rutayisire, General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Kigali. "Golf reflects the same values we stand for — hospitality, excellence, and shared success.”
Since its inception, the NCBA Golf Series has evolved into one of East Africa’s premier amateur golf circuits, attracting more than 5,000 golfers across over 20 tournaments in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. The series has become a platform where emerging talent meets experience, and where sport fosters cross-border connections and business relationships.
"Our focus remains on consistency — showing up for the sport, our partners, and the communities we serve,” added Toroitich. "The NCBA Golf Series has become a symbol of regional progress and partnership — a story that continues to grow every year.”
As Kigali’s golfers tee off this weekend, anticipation builds for the final showdown in Nairobi — a fitting conclusion to another season celebrating excellence, unity, and the shared spirit of East African golf.
