National rugby team coach Gerald Nsenga yesterday paid glowing tribute to his team for seeing off Burundi in the Confederation of African rugby development trophy on Saturday.

Silverbacks thrashed Intambwe 16-0 in Bujumbura, with captain Benjamin Makombe grabbing a try in the first half.
Fly half Lucien Bikamba heaped more misery on the Burundians in the second half by scoring three penalties and a conversion.

Nsenga now thinks his team will command the kind of respect that they deserve amongst East African power houses like Uganda and Kenya.

"My boys really showed a lot of character by beating Burundi convincingly at their own turf.

"Bikamba (Lucien) has been the architecture of the team and with him, this team will now command the type of respect they deserve,” Nsenga said.

The national side has had a good spell in the last two months after finishing twice in the final of the Bowl category of the Makerere 10s tournament and the Nakuru sevens.
