Disi wnats to set a new full marathon record and become a legend in Rwandan athletics history

Rwanda’s top long distance runner Dieudonne Disi today sets off for a four-months training camp in the high altitudes of Eldoret, Kenya.

Disi decided to set his training camp in Eldoret after learning that he won’t be participating in next month’s Abu Dhabi international half marathon.

Speaking to Times Sport ahead of his departure, the 29-year-old said his training is part of the intended early preparations for next year’s World marathon championships, which starts in April.

"Eldoret is suitable for its altitude and also to training with Kenyan athletes will help me improve my standards,” said Disi.

"I am targeting the Rotterdam, London or Paris marathon. I don’t know which one I will run yet but that’s my target.”

He noted Rotterdam is a good venue, but London attracts the best marathon athletes in the world and offers better prizes, and as for the Paris marathon, he’s used to it.

Meanwhile, the athlete revealed that he is final touches with an unnamed European company to sign an endorsement deal. He’s also in talks to renew his contract with Germany Company, Adidas next year.

About his failure to set a new meeting record in 10,000m in the national championship (Rendezvous National) at the weekend, Disi said he would have set it had his mind been settled.

"I was running but my mind wasn’t here (at the championship), I was frustrated after learning that was going to compete in the Abu Dhabi international half marathon next month.

He clocked 29:52:76 as winner and the meeting record stands at 28:52, set by Joseph Nsengiyumva in 2000. The latter is now based in Canada. Disi’s personal best is 27:22 in over 10.000m.
