Burundi 0-16 Rwanda

Silverbacks captain Benjamin Makombe overcame fatigue and scored a try that sent Burundian national rugby team packing from the Confederation of African rugby development trophy in Bujumbura on Saturday afternoon.

Rwanda came from behind to win the first leg 12-6 but they showed that there is a huge gulf in class between them and the Burundians when they thrashed their national rugby side 16-0.

Team captain Makombe failed to travel with the team on Friday due to work commitments and arrived in Bujumbura just hours before kickoff, but that did not deter his performance, when he scored the only try of the match.

Fly half Lucien Bikamba also added a conversion and three penalties to seal the win.

Coach Gerald Nsenga paid his team the ultimate praise saying that they now have the mentality to take on the big guns in East Africa.

"The boys were absolutely fantastic. They rose to the occasion and the self belief and mentality in this team is good enough to take on teams from Uganda and Kenya,” Nsenga said.

Rwanda will now play the winner between Tanzania and Mauritius.
