NYAGATARE -  Nyagatare district will  tomorrow  get a new vice mayor in charge of economic affairs, an electoral official has said. Thomas Ruhanika, the head of Electoral Commission in Nyagatare district confirmed the development in a telephone interview on Sunday.

‘Yes, we will conduct elections of the district vice mayor in charge of economic affairs on Tuesday 22nd December,’ he said.

Ruhanika said that three candidates have already been selected and the final campaign was carried out on Saturday.

Their campaigns were held in Kiyombe sector,’ he said.
According to Saturday campaign results sources familiar with electoral politics in the district contend that Enock Byabashaija, the executive secretary of Kiyombe sector is tipped to take the position ahead of  his challengers, Jean Pierre Mutabazi and Patrick Ruzirabwoba Mutimura.

The elections come months after the district former vice mayor; Anselme Majoro Rurangwa was elected Gatsibo district mayor.

Rurangwa had for the last four years been Nyagatare district vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs. He was later appointed the Nyagatare district’s acting Mayor after Robert Kashemeza was sacked in July this year.
