GICUMBI – Byumba Development Association (ADEB), will head a ten member  technical committee charged with foreseeing the installation of Gicumbi community Radio, set for April 2010.

The Radio is sponsored by USAID through the Rwanda Media Strengthening Project being implemented by International Research and Exchange Board (IREX).

The deal was reached in a district meeting chaired by Gicumbi district Vice mayor for Economic Affairs Ildephonse Butera, which brought together IREX officials, religious leaders, district development partners and representatives of district private sector.

"ADEB being the body that brings together Gicumbi district development partners, shall be in a better position to manage and guarantee the smooth functioning of the District community Radio,” said Butera.

He further said the district has already offered a building to house the radio.

Louse Brunet, the IREX Chief of party, assured ADEB and the technical committee of her organization’s full support.

"IREX Rwanda shall install radio equipment, provide training and payment of journalists’ salaries for a period of six months,” Brunet said.
