Kepler VC on Friday, October 17, swept Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in the opening match of the 2025/26 national volleyball league season at Petit Stade Gymnasium.
Right attacker Wicklif Dusenge opened the league with the first point of the season and his early momentum lifted the team to a 10-0 lead before REG captain Kavaro Akumuntu hit first point to end the run. REG tried to close the gap but Kepler held on the take the first set 25-21.
They then maintained the momentum and claimed second set 25-18 and, in the third and decisive set, Dusenge once again stood out to help Kepler complete the sweep with a 27-25 win.
"Our opening match went well. It’s not easy to find rhythm early in the season, but I’m happy with the result—not because of my individual performance, but because of the team as a whole,” Dusenge told Times Sport.
In the women’s category, APR WVC defeated Kepler WVC in what marked Kepler’s second-ever match since joining the top division. The university-based club, coached by Florien Siborurema, struggled to keep up and lost 3-1 in sets (25-19, 16-25, 25-23, 25-14).
