Hundreds on Monday gathered at the Supreme Court to pay their last respects to city lawyer, Jean Marie Vianney Ruzagiriza Gatanazi who passed away suddenly on December 12.

Most of the speakers, who included members of the learned fraternity and family members alike, spoke of how hard working the deceased was.

"Ruzagiriza was a man of honour, integrity and was hard working always ready to fight for justice,” Alain Mukurarinda, who represented public prosecution, said in his speech.

Gatanazi succumbed to headache while he preparing for his sister’s introduction ceremony.

"He woke up in the morning as usual, went to his small brothers’ bedroom asking them to go to his sister’s place to start preparations for her introduction. He then complained of a severe headache and collapsed. By the time he reached hospital, the doctors pronounced him dead,” Jovith Ruzagiriza, his elder brother, told The New Times.

"We are suspecting it must have been stress, he was working a lot,” he added.

Ruzagiriza who was born in 1964 in Nyakariba town of the Kinshasa, DR Congo, was laid to rest at Remera Cemetery.
