Residents of Kamukina Cell in Kimihurura, a Kigali suburb of Gasabo district, have expressed discontent on the works of the water distribution department of RECO/RWASCO saying they had gone with no water for the last ten days.

RECO/RWASCO is the former Electrogaz, the national energy and water utility.

According to area residents The New Times spoke to, people have resorted to travelling long distances in search of water.

"The distribution is unequal! It is now a week and three days since we last had water in our taps. We go all the way to La Colombiere at a car washing bay to get water to prepare food for our families,” Betty Mwiza, one of the residents complained.

Another resident identified as Emmanuel Mbarushimana, also claimed to have collected water  from the same source saying that they had no option but to use the unsafe water.

When contacted, Didas Twagirayezu, the head of water distribution at RECO/RWASCO in Kigali, attributed the water shortage in some parts of Kimihurura to lack of spare parts for some equipment.

"Some areas of Kimihurura are facing water shortages because the required spare parts for our equipment have not yet been purchased. But we are going to solve the problem very soon,” he said.
