Disc jockeying prodigy Danny Mugisha, commonly known on the set as Selekta Danny, has added the Mutzig Amabeats prize to his fortunes after winning the contest during the grand finale held Saturday, November 26, at Mundi Center, Rwandex.

The 22-year-old returned home victorious after beating the likes of DJ Khizzbeats who emerged first runner-up and DJ Rugamba who came third with DJs Buster and F Trucker completing the top five.

Saturday’s Mutzig-powered grand finale looked by far the most competitive of all battles held in the country through which the finalists were brought together on the same stage to prove who would become the jury’s best of the best.

A four-member jury mare up of DJs Bisoso, Anita Pendo, Infinity and Shariff, was named to decide the DJ who would walk out champion after all the five finalists presented what they’ve got on the set before a fully-filled Boogaloo complex.

They competed in three challenges namely mashup, scratch and freestyle after which Selekta Danny out-performed the rest, hence walking away with a prize worth Rwf18 million and a one-year contract as the brand ambassador of Mutzig.

"I am so excited to win once again. So grateful to everyone here who supported me,” Selekta Danny said after winning the finale.

Besides, he was also rewarded with a DJ's set that includes a brand-new turntable and a laptop.

Meanwhile, first runner-up Khizzbeats pocketed a cash prize of Rwf 12 million while DJ Rugamba, the only female in the top five finalists, was awarded a cash prize of Rwf2,500,000.

Selekta Danny is growing fast in the disc jockeying game, with his extraordinary creativity on the decks increasingly attracting the attention of many in clubs and other entertainment places.

Danny started disk jockeying in 2019 after being trained by DJ Lenzo. However, studies kept him busy and had to temporarily quit.

The DJ, born Danny Mugisha, returned to the decks in 2020, during the wake of Covid-19 pandemic after all activities were halted to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

He progressed to the grand finale after beating DJ Montague during the Rwamagana battle to represent the Eastern Province.

He now plays music at Boogaloo, which is located at Mundi Centre, Rwandex, the venue that hosted the DJs battle.

Meanwhile, all DJs that made it to the top 10 were presented with certificates of participation at the inaugural Mutzig Amabeats DJ battle which Bralirwa believes it met their expectations.

"To all DJs, you made people here happy and what you did was worth it. Congratulations to the winner and, to finalists, never stop starting. I hope to see a much more competitive battle next year,” said Bralirwa Marketing Manager Martine Gatabazi.

The Mutzig Amabeats DJs contest is organised by Bralirwa Plc with a goal to promote DJs and create public awareness of the talent and quality music in Rwanda, as well as provide business opportunities, networking, and leisure activities through competitions.
