Creativity important in medical work

Creativity is marked by the ability or power to create, bring into existence, and invest with a new form to produce through imaginative skill, to make or bring into existence something new. Creativity, could be achieved by: seeking to look at things in new ways, valuing new thoughts and ideas, looking for innovative solutions, seeking change, being curious, willingness to take risks to accomplish your vision and continuously seeking to  improve everything we do.

Medicine is a creative activity. If medicine is to thrive in Rwanda, it must be creative.

Success in medicine demands constant innovation.
Brain power is the most valuable resource available for a human being. We need to attract talented and creative people because wealth directly flows from them.

It is worth mentioning that creativity in medicine is essential to prophylaxis, developing new methods of treatment and surgery, drug development.  And discovering local diseases, their variants and prognosis.

Based on the previous assumption, and taking a look at our medical community, we need to assess and see we have creative doctors and encourage them.

Based on my experience, I feel that creative people in medicine, in our community are rarely celebrated. Adversely, such people look for administrative posts in order to raise their salaries.

The government of Rwanda raised salaries for medical workers, so as to meet the quality and demand of their services. I think this is important because medicine needs a special scale for professionals. Their salaries should be raised, rather than to put them in ineffectual administrative positions.

In our medical community, it is quite often that we lavish position and money on people for their names and their loyalty, not their creativity.

It is possible to find many circumstances where in the past, a non ethical individual has been put in charge of ethics and a person who has very little knowledge of research put in charge of research.

At the same time, great researchers have been researching all their lives and have had many publications behind their names and continue forging life in other disciplines.

This also afflicts our medical Society where non-researchers are put in-charge of research evaluation, and people who know very little about ethics are put in charge of ethical positions like administrative posts.

I think we need to think more towards creativity and creative people.  We need to conquer the next centuries by encouraging as many creative people as we can, in order for our medical community to develop and to give a better service to our patients.

All administrators and leaders should always consider looking after talented and creative professionals, on whose shoulders falls the responsibility of developing medicine for the future generations.

In most cases, when someone is creative and innovative towards work, then he has the ability to notify other creative people in the field. Today people look at the hardworking in only a mechanical perspective.

But you need to know the flexibility of an individual at work as well. Knowing how to evaluate people is also another important criterion that our master’s lack, more especially when it comes to medicine.
