Abuse of justice is the Spanish indictments

The withdrawal of two “key witnesses” used by a Spanish Judge in concocting indictments on 40 Rwandan senior army officers reveals to the world how the issue of international justice is being manipulated and abused to serve sinister intentions. As evidently portrayed in the latest reports, Judge Fernando Andreu Merelles issued these indictments knowing well that they were influenced by Rwanda’s political enemies and Genocide suspects with a lot of Rwandan blood on their hands.

The withdrawal of two "key witnesses” used by a Spanish Judge in concocting indictments on 40 Rwandan senior army officers reveals to the world how the issue of international justice is being manipulated and abused to serve sinister intentions.

As evidently portrayed in the latest reports, Judge Fernando Andreu Merelles issued these indictments knowing well that they were influenced by Rwanda’s political enemies and Genocide suspects with a lot of Rwandan blood on their hands.

The case was built around four "key witnesses” whose character and moral standing leaves a lot to be desired.  The so-called witnesses were a bunch of known conmen who included fugitives escaping justice from Rwanda.

If a judge can base a case on such individuals, it not only questions their integrity as a judge but also portrays the kind of arrogance exhibited by some officials in the West, towards the African people.

These indictments were founded on a pack of lies thus casting their credibility into question. From the onset, they exhibited all ingredients of fabricated materials, using a bunch coached ‘witnesses.’

Good enough, the truth always triumphs and now Judge Merelles is left in the cold. But most importantly, his evil intentions have been exposed.

Condemning this kind of abuse of international justice should not be a thing for Africa or Rwanda alone. The international community and especially multilateral bodies like the United Nations should take a firm stand on this abuse and bring order to the process.

A judge cannot simply seat in a western capital, and on the basis of some political interests, issue indictments on members of a legitimate government or anyone else for that matter.

With the latest exposure of the pile of lies behind these illegitimate indictments, the international community should simply treat them with the due contempt they deserve.
