The proprietor of B-Club, an upscale night club in Nyarutarama, a suburb of Kigali city has been arrested for issuing a bouncing cheque; The New Times can reveal.

Barry Ndengeyingoma, popularly known as Ndegeye, is currently detained at Remera Police Station for allegedly issuing a Rwf15m cheque to an undisclosed party.

A reliable source revealed to The New Times, Ndengeye who owns a string of businesses in Kigali was arrested while trying to sneak the club’s sound system which is partly owned by other investors into the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he is said to own another night club. 

When contacted, prosecution spokesman, Augustine Nkusi confirmed the arrest saying that the businessman is detained on charges of issuing a bouncing cheque and abuse of trust.

Nkusi said Ndengeye, risks 2 to 5 years in prison if found guilty for breaching articles 424 and 435 of the penal code.
He also said his file will be presented to Kacyiru Primary court today for pre-trial detention.
