MUHANGA – Youth in Nyarusange and Muhanga sector in Muhanga district have taken on the task of sensitizing their peers on condom use as a way of fighting AIDS infection.

The youth made the resolve on Tuesday during a condom use promotion campaign, sponsored by the Society of Women Against Aids in Africa (SWAA-Rwanda).

The youth pointed out that the cultural and religious issues have impeded the use of condoms and appealed to society to change the way they perceive the condoms
Similar campaigns were also held by various youth groups in the nine sectors in the district, during which youth were offered free voluntary counseling and testing services (VCT).

As part of the activities, the youths marched through the town centre chanting songs and slogans sensitising the community to embrace condom use.

"Youths should lead the fight against AIDS in order to have a bright future,” Gérard Sibomana, the executive secretary of SWAA-Rwanda said. "The participation of the community is vital in increasing awareness and use of condoms as the basic way of fighting the scourge.”

The campaign will go on for the next three months.
