"The sky is the limit”, for Rwanda’s actress, also famous for her sensational voice, Shanel. She bagged another award at the International Film Festival (IFF) Bratislava, on December 4 for the movie "The Day God Went Away”.

The star, whose real name is Ruth Nirere, has received the second award, only a few weeks after the recent one at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF), in Greece.

"The Day God Went Away” follows the harrowing struggle for survival of a Tutsi woman during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide against the Tutsi.

"I’m so delighted, and filled with joy for being acknowledged the best actress in the movie,” Shanel told The News Times on phone.

The Day God Went Away was first screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, and won the KUTXA Award in San Sebastian Film Festival, and in PRIX DE DECOUVERTE.

In the film, Jacqueline (Shanel) reluctantly goes to hide in the attic of the home belonging to a white Belgian family, where she works as a housemaid, and whose members soon flee the mounting chaos of Kigali.

Shanel has travelled to Nigeria for the ION Film Festival, scheduled to take place this week.
