RWANDA has put in a splendid performance in the Rwabushenyi memorial chess champion ship which climaxes today at Kati Kati restaurant in Kampala, Uganda.

Rwanda’s experienced player William Abiye has already notched three wins while Rwanda’s top seed Godfrey Kabera and Alex Ruzigura have won two games apiece.

The eight-round competition attracted players from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and hosts Uganda.

After sweeping his first three rounds, Rwanda’s experienced player William Abiye was in confident mood.

"I have started well and hope to keep it going for the other five rounds,” the 2008 chess Olympiad told Times Sport.

Rwf0.3m has been staked for the overall winner.
Kenya’s Isaac Babu is the tournament chief arbiter.
