WANTS TOP SEAT: Bayigamba

THE chairman of the judicial committee of the National Olympic Committee (RNOC) Philbert Rutagensagwa has promised free and fair elections for the executive committee.

The elections, which start at 9am, will be held at Ferwafa headquarters.

"It will be a free and fair election and we don’t expect any complaints.” Rutagensagwa said.

Rwanda Tennis Federation (RTF) president Charles Rudakubana and former Sports Minister Robert Bayigamba are vying for the top seat (president) while Phophina Muhimpundu and Theogene Uwayo are in contention for the post of 1st vice president.

Elie Manirora (NPC-Rwanda), Jean Paul Munyandamutsa (Athletics) and David Mucyesha are in contention for vice president while Parfait Busabizwa and Alex Mbaraga are standing for the post of Secretary General.

Thierry Rwabusaza (Cycling federation) and Alain Christian Sekuru want the post of treasurer.

The elections, which had been scheduled for last Sunday, had to be pushed forward on the request of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

At the time, the IOC together with Anoca (Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa) wanted a briefing on the reasons that led to the disbandment of the previous committee headed by Ignace Beraho.
