Paulin Munyaneza, a 44-year old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly defiling 11-year old girl.

Sources said he was arrested after the heavily bruised victim reported the incident to her mother. He admitted to the crime after arrest.

"I lured the young girl to my house and defiled her,” said Munyaneza.

"I knew that the girl was underage and that defilement is a crime punishable by the Law, all I ask for is forgiveness.” The mother of the victim requested for the highest sentence possible.

"He has destroyed my daughter,” she said. "I call for the heaviest deterrent punishment.”

Results of medical examinations could not be obtained by press time. If convicted, Munyaneza faces a life sentence.

In another separate incident, a 44-year old man, Gaspard Minani who is suspected to have attempted to rape his 17-year old daughter is also under arrest.

Minani, a father of four was arrested following a tip-off from members of a local association that fights abuse.

According to sources, Minani’s family attempted to cover up the incident by sending the girl to her mother far away in Maraba Sector. The couple is said to have divorced in 1995 over health reasons.

It is alleged that on the fateful night, Minani tried to force himself on his daughter, but the girl overpowered him.

Speaking from the police, he denied the allegations, saying he was being framed because of land wrangles. The two are expected to be arraigned before court soon.
