MoD’s hope of dethroning Rendezvous National champions Ministry of Education (Mineduc) has received a big blow after reports that there won’t be a training camp for the athletes.

According to the athletics coach Innocent Rwabuhihi of the Ministry of Defense (MoD), the camp, which was expected to start this week at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), has been scrapped off due to financial reasons.

"We are not going to have the camp this year because of low funds,” said Rwabuhihi.

Rendezvous National, which is the final event on this year’s athletics calendar, is slated for December 19-20 at Amahoro stadium. Last year, Mineduc swept the championship after garnering 381 points. MoD came second on 351points.

The event will attract over 250 athletes from four ministries, MoD, Mineduc, Ministry of Internal affairs and Ministry of local government (Minaloc).

Disciplines to be competed in range from sprint races (100m, 200m, 400m, ), 800m, 5000m, 10,000m, short and long relays, short put, javelin and discus among others.
