The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has announced extended operating hours for hospitality businesses, particularly shopping centers, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, during the UCI Road World Championships, scheduled for September 21 to 28.

The move is intended to encourage athletes, visitors, and cycling enthusiasts to enjoy an extended Kigali nightlife, the RDB said in a statement on Friday, September 19.

Closing hours have been extended from 1am on weekdays and 2am on weekends to 4 a.m., effective September 19 to 28, to support the global sporting event and manage the anticipated irregular traffic flow.

"Existing measures, such as noise pollution restrictions and the prohibition on serving or consuming alcohol to persons under the age of 18, remain in effect,” cautioned the regulator.

"All consumers are reminded to drink responsibly and not to drive under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol should not be served to anyone who appears intoxicated.”

The RDB said that in collaboration with other relevant government institutions the proper implementation of these guidelines will be ensured.

"Entities that violate these directives will be held accountable,” the statement added.

All non-essential services close at 1a.m. from Monday-Thursday and at 2a.m. during weekends (Friday and Saturday).
