Kigali’s entertainment calendar is about to welcome a refreshing new experience with the launch of the Drive-In Cine Soirée, the city’s first drive-in cinema event, set for October 4, at the former La Palisse Nyandungu.
Organised by Xperia, this soirée will blend film, music, games, and food, transforming an ordinary evening into a magical night under the stars.
Organisers told The New Times that the inspiration behind the event came from a desire to bring something new and exciting to Kigali while drawing from the nostalgic charm of how people once enjoyed movies in the past.

"After carefully studying the history of cinema-going, we realized the drive-in concept could be reimagined for today,” the organizers explained. Following more than ten months of research, planning, and analysis, the team is now ready to introduce this cinematic experience to Rwanda.
Xperia, the creative house, positions itself as a hub for culture, art, and innovation. From pop-ups and cultural showcases to immersive nights, their mission is to craft experiences that bring people together and create lasting memories. The Drive-In Cine Soirée stands as one of their flagship projects, embodying their vision of reimagining entertainment in Rwanda.

What makes this soirée unique is its atmosphere, said the organizers. Guests will be welcomed into a vibrant social space filled with interactive games, live music, and delicious food before the film begins.
During the screening, audiences will receive personal headsets for crystal-clear sound. The setup has been carefully designed to be inclusive so car owners can enjoy the traditional drive-in vibe, while non-car guests are offered comfortable seating to enjoy the same magic.
"We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere where people can enjoy a film under the stars, share good food, engage with live entertainment, and feel part of something special,” organisers noted.
