Imbuto Foundation has appointed Christa Umuhoza as its new Deputy Director General, replacing Geraldine Umutesi, who served in the role since 2017.

"We warmly welcome Umuhoza as our new Deputy Director General. She joins the Foundation with a results-oriented approach that blends strategic vision with operational excellence, all driven by the goal of expanding opportunities for youth, women, and communities through innovation and education,” reads a statement shared on the Foundation’s X account.

Founded in 2001 by First Lady Jeannette Kagame, the Foundation began as the PACFA Programme (Protection and Care of Families against HIV/AIDS), aimed at supporting families, particularly children, youth, and women living with HIV/AIDS.

In 2007, PACFA rebranded as Imbuto Foundation to expand its focus beyond HIV/AIDS, implementing programs in education, innovation, and community empowerment.

The Foundation is also known for providing scholarships to students and recognising girls for outstanding performance in national exams.

Before her appointment at Imbuto Foundation, Umuhoza served as Regional Coordinator for French West and Central Africa at Smart Africa, an innovative initiative led by African Heads of State and Government to accelerate sustainable socio-economic development across the continent.

The program aims to usher Africa into a knowledge-based economy through affordable broadband access and the effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Prior to this, Umuhoza also held the role of Associate Project Manager.

The Foundation also bid farewell to Umutesi, "whose remarkable leadership and dedication have left an enduring legacy of empowerment and growth.”
