Ugandans living in Rwanda on Sunday officially launched their association that will bring together the entire Ugandan community living and working in Kigali.

The association called Association of Ugandans in Rwanda (AUR) was launched at Hill Top Hotel in Remera.

The association started operating two years back but had not yet received legal documents to allow it carry out some income generating projects to supplement their livelihoods.

Isaa Bogere, the Chairman of the association explained that this was a positive development because through AUR, members will be able to help one another.

"This is the time to know all Ugandans living here and this is the appropriate forum where we will be meeting to get to know each other better,” Bogere told hundreds who had attended the launch.

The association will also have programmes like sensitizing Ugandans on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and why it’s important to go for blood tests.

Ugandan Ambassador to Rwanda, Richard Kabonero said the association will also help improve ties between the two countries.

"Members of the Association are supposed to be an example and positively portray the image of Uganda,” Kabonero said.

Joseph Kabakeza, the Director of Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the launch.
