Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility. Even though man practices certain activities like deforestation and bush burning that destroy our naturally given environment, there are also natural changes in climate that affect the environment.

Eric Mutabazi is a student at ETO Muhima. He said that the natural changes of the environment are a result of man’s activities that have significant effects on climate change.

"Man’s contribution to destroying the environment is significant,” he said, adding that "industrialization is what destroys the environment. It causes pollution, when waste products are deposited on land and water.”

He added that as the fight for environmental protection continues, the causes should not be underestimated.
Harriet Mwiza a senior five student at Glory Secondary school said environmental protection and destruction should not be blamed on anyone, but efforts to plant more trees and sensitise people on protecting the environment should be increased.

"Of course cutting down tress is working against the environment, but when people end-up complaining without taking serious measures against such acts, it becomes useless,” Mwiza said.

She explained that instead of only blaming others, people should be sensitized on the negative effects of tree cutting.

They should also be taught to plant more trees.
It is a personal choice to take part in the struggle to protect the environment because it belongs to us.
