Rwanda joins commonwealth
On Saturday, November 28th, Rwanda was admitted at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Trinidad and Tobago. This historic event has made Rwanda the 54th member to join the Commonwealth. Rwanda was accepted because of the “tremendous progress” made since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

This historic event has made Rwanda the 54th member to join the Commonwealth. Rwanda was accepted because of the "tremendous progress” made since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Rwanda, a former colony of Germany and Belgium, is the second country after Mozambique to be admitted without a British colonial past or constitutional link to Britain.
The Minister of Information, Louise Mushikiwabo said that, "Rwandans are ready to seize economic, political, cultural and other opportunities offered by the Commonwealth network.”
