Cyclists set for Gabon test

TEAM Rwanda’s consistent performance in recent cycling competitions has paid off following an invite to compete in next year’s Tour of Gabon. The event dubbed ‘La Tropicale Amissa Bongo’ is slated for January 19-24. According to the Executive Secretary of the national cycling federation (Ferwacy) Emmanuel Murenzi, Rwanda will field six cyclists namely Abraham Ruhumuriza, Nathan Byukusenge, Nicodem Habiyambere, Obed Ruvogera, Nyandwi Uwase and Rafiki Jean de dieu Uwimana.

TEAM Rwanda’s consistent performance in recent cycling competitions has paid off following an invite to compete in next year’s Tour of Gabon.

The event dubbed ‘La Tropicale Amissa Bongo’ is slated for January 19-24.

According to the Executive Secretary of the national cycling federation (Ferwacy) Emmanuel Murenzi, Rwanda will field six cyclists namely Abraham Ruhumuriza, Nathan Byukusenge, Nicodem Habiyambere, Obed Ruvogera, Nyandwi Uwase and Rafiki Jean de dieu Uwimana.

Some of the other countries expected to compete in the six day tour include Morocco, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa.

Rwanda’s in-form rider Adrien Niyonshuti will compete for his South African based club-MTN Energade.

Team Rwanda finished second in 2009 Tour of Rwanda to pocket a cash prize of Rwf340.000.
