RWANDA’s basketball kings APR have reinforced their squad after bringing in Mathieu Miller on a short-term contract.

The experienced point guard, who has been playing professional basketball in Germany, flew in last Wednesday.
"The wait is over. He is here and has started training with the team,” APR’s coach Cliff Owuor said.

Technically, Miller, who was a big hit with the national basketball team during this year’s Fiba-Afrobasket Championships in Libya, is free to join the indomitable lions after choosing not to renew his contract with his Germany club.

"Right now, he is trying to get a clearance letter from his former club. That’s all he needs to play for us,” the Kenyan coach added.

APR, who start residential training this morning at Belvedere village (next to MTN center) are hosting the Fiba-Club Championships for the first time. The 24th edition slated to run from December 13 to 22 is expected to attract top sides from Africa’s top basketballing nations like Angola, Cameroon, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia among others.

Owuor hopes his team, who are making a third appearance will ride on home advantage to better last year’s performance.

In their two appearances, the indomitable lions have made steady progress. After stunning everyone with a 9th spot finish on their debut in 2007 (Angola), the lions roared into 8th spot last year (Tunisia) and Owuor reckons that the team will not looking back this year.

Like last year, Owuor expects a very competitive event this time round but claims that his guns are up for the task.
