MUHANGA – AIDS activists in the country have been urged to include people living with disabilities in prevention campaigns.
Christine Mukazayire of the Rwanda Union of the Blind (RUB) made the remarks yesterday at the closure of a 5-day AIDS sensitisation workshop for 13 people with visual impairment from Muhanga and Ruhango districts.
Organised under the theme; "Strengthening the communities to integrate people with disabilities in HIV/AIDS response in Rwanda” the workshop equipped participants with necessary communication skills to teach other people with vision impairment about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
One of the trainers, Consolatrice Niyibi, a blind third-year student at the National University of Rwanda (NUR) Faculty of Medicine, stressed the importance of including people living with disabilities in anti-AIDS campaigns.
The training was conducted at the Centre for Women Promotion and Fulfilment (CEPAF) in Nyamabuye Sector, Muhanga district.
