Wrestling for a wife is not my thing

Ladies and gentlemen, if you have not physically seen me I will try to describe myself and afterwards make your conclusions on the decision I took when I was about to marry my Karamajong fiancé. Am a man of a small build who would not even kill a hen single-handedly leave alone wrestling a giant woman with muscles like Goliath.

African cultures differ from tribe to tribe and I was a victim of a different culture from mine and I ended up missing on the woman of my dreams.

I met Koriang one evening at a dinner party organized by her family when they we bidding farewell to her brother Onyapid as he was leaving for America. Onyapid and I have been friends since university.

Koriang was a tall woman, with huge biceps and triceps but with a womanly face and voice that made her beautifully sexy. "I want to bid farewell to my great friend shooter who has been exceptional to me from our days in school,” Onyapid was now making me the envy of everyone at the party.

Within no minute, I was the hottest item on every one’s lips and the centre of attention. Tactfully, I ignored the attention but carefully aware of the girls around and instead I settled for my cold beer.

Before the traditional dance started, I bumped into Onyapid with the sister getting ready for the dance. "Hey shooter, this is my little sister Koriang.

Remember she used to visit me at university with mum when she would not clean her nose?” Onyapid was poking her sister not aware he was setting the ball rolling for me.

Koriang was not the type to take insults lying down she immediately punched her brother in the stomach. It was so hard a punch, he cancelled the dance. "Hey, you hurt him,” I was concerned.  "No, he won’t die, just a small blackout,” she was so casual about it.

But I was fascinated by her white teeth, black gum as well as her white eyes. "Are you a great dancer?” I asked her. "I have been doing this for so long and I have mastered it may be am good,” she was politely arrogant.

"Can we talk more about the dance?” I requested her. "No big deal, but when you rub me the wrong way, you will receive what your friend has gotten.”

True to her word she came looking for me after dancing. That is when I realized her holy beauty not with sweat shining on her black skin.

"You danced well, I liked it,” I risked a punch and threw a compliment which she received warmly. "Thanks shooter I wish you could dance our traditional dance,” she was proving a soft nut to crack other than the warrior I had seen.

I requested her to teach me there and then but she could not. "Look shooter, we shall do that some other time but not here.”

We kept in touch there after and we took it from a mere friendship to a hot romance to the extent that I proposed two weeks later before Onyapid could leave for the US.
Off we went for the introduction ceremony in Karamoja in that country where I was living at the time.

"Am happy to see you son,” the old man who would be my father-in-law welcomed me with a cup of local brew which I gulped with no hesitation.

"But in our culture we don’t give our girls to weak husbands who would not defend them in times of trouble.” The old man informed me

"If you want her you, have to wrestle her down but if she does wrestle you down then you go back empty-handed or hearted.”

I never bothered to disturb them because Koriang would definitely put me down a million times, hands down.

That is the only time I ever lost my love because of the reasons that are not of my own making and she was a traditions person who would never elope with me even when she confessed love for me several times.

I still miss dear Koriang.
