NYAGATARE – Residents of Karangazi sector have been left in shock after cattle thieves disappeared with their animals in separate incidences.

According to the local leaders, close to 50 head of cattle were on Tuesday stolen in different parts of Karangazi sector in Nyagatare district.

Speaking to The New Times yesterday, residents whose cows were stolen said they suspect the stolen cattle were sneaked into Tanzania.

"We intend to travel to Tanzania to search for our cows.” Thomas Gisagara, who lost 22 cows said.

According to Gisagara, the cows were stolen in the wee hours of the night while his herdsman was asleep.

George Kayibanda, another resident who lost 15 cows said that his stock was taken late in the evening after the thieves tricked his herdsman.

‘They offered my herdsman alcohol and after he got drunk they took off cows with the cows,” he said.

However, in an interview the Karangazi sector executive secretary, Emmanuel Murenzi said the cows are not carefully monitored.

‘These cows are always wandering around untended to. We advise farmers to always graze their cows within their farms,’ he said.
