PUGILISTS from different local boxing clubs have stepped up their preparations for next month’s national club championships.

According to the national boxing association (Raba) technical director Gashuji Kananura, the championship will be used as a selection ground for the national team ahead of next year’s Africa amateur boxing championship.

"We have made it clear to all boxers that this championship will have a huge bearing on who gets into the national team,” he said.

Until date, the event, which is slated to be held at Amahoro’s Indoor Stadium, is expected to attract bombers from six clubs; Remera Boxing club, Kimisagara boxing clubs, Masaka, Musanze, ETM and Inkuba.

It is the first competition on this year’s local calendar.
